Today I was at one of my favorite forums and I witnessed something that made me shake my head. What follows is a paraphrased summary intended to protect the guilty:
Thread A: Obama is a socialist. Even McLame looks better.
Thread B: The economy is going to tank no matter who takes office. (Author’s note: I tend to go along with Jim Jubak that we are undergoing live frog soup: the economy is undergoing such slow deterioration that political and emotional mobilization is effectively impossible. The coming collapse will be a revisit of Carter or Japan or Russia’s stagnation period but with much greater damage and much better spin control, tanking implies a Hoover style series of collapses: 1929 stocks, 1930 foreign trade, 1931 banking and 1932 the bonus march. A Hoover style collapse enables better political mobilization for good or ill.)
Thread B: The ne xt president will be turned out of office.
Thread A: I will vote against Obama but he will win. I am bummed.

Let’s see I like Ron Paul, the next president will be a scapegoat for decades of bad policy no matter who he is or what he does therefore I will write in Ron Paul. What kind of sense does this make? What would make sense is :
I think Obama sucks.
The next president will be a one term wonder who will put his party into the political wilderness for decades. (Since 1976 no democrat has won both the popular vote and the electoral college but the Republicans have done so at least three times since 1976: 1984, 88 and 2004; and that includes two unpopular presidents. Carter in a negative sense is one of the more influential presidents of the second half of the 20th century.)
Does it not therefore follow that the above should be followed by: I am going to go out and campaign for Hussein so I never have to see his kind of politics again?
In the era of Chthu lhu candidates, which we are definitely in, the candidate you hate the most is the one you vote to become the human sacrifice/scapegoat for cumulative policy errors of the past. The next president will be blamed for the explosion or continuation of the Iraq Disaster, the collapse of the US economy and insolvent Social Security, Mortgage guarantees, student loans and Medicare/Medicaid. Why vote for someone you like and/or respect in this situation? If you think the economy and foreign policy mess is fixable then you are in a different ball game. If you want to get rid of both the socialists and the Kleptocrats AKA Republicans vote Dem this time and pick up supporters from the collapse of the Dems in 2012 and put real pressure on the republican establishment in 2016 and 2020..
